Stahl’s legacy as a Browns Backer and community man continues with donation
UNION CITY – On January 14, 2026, members of the Union City Browns Backers presented Everheart Hospice of Darke County with their final contribution following the passing of the club’s founder, Scott Stahl and his wife, Judith. Since the club’s inception, they have been a strong supporter of Everheart, making donations over the years totally an excess of $10,000. Upon the loss of their founder and leader, the club voted to disband and donate all remaining funds to Everheart.
On hand for the presentation of the donation were UCBB Vice President Rick VanDePitte, UCBB members Shelia Crowe, Cindy Stumpf, and Jackie Stahl, who are also daughters of the late founder. Also present were Stahl’s granddaughter Olivia Bolton, great-grandchildren Ryan and Hadleigh Bolton, and Everheart staff Kristi Strawser and Erica Woods.
The UCBB was formed in 1987 and was a way for local Browns fans to come together, support their team, and give back to their community. Stahl, who also served as the mayor of Union City for 24 years, was not only a huge Browns fan but also a staunch supporter of the community. His daughter Shelia expressed that he always believed in giving back and making things better.
Members reminisced about how Stahl was always hustling. Famous for his saying, “The only thing they can tell me is no”, he used his drive and passion to raise funds over the years to benefit various community programs. His family shared that Everheart Hospice was always where the biggest donations were made.
Stahl had worked as a delivery man for Kaupp Pharmacy, which led to him making connections with many families who utilized Everheart’s services. Kristi Strawser commented, “He was a genuinely wonderful man. We are so thankful for his support.” She also comforted the family with words expressing that his legacy will live on through his community support and the lives that he touched.
Erica Wood thanked the group for their years of support, along with this final contribution of over $2,000. She noted that with the costs and supplies increasing, this donation really makes a difference.
For those wishing to pay their respects, the family invites them to join in the celebration of life to be held on January 24th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Union City, IN.
